How does a kid with an accounting degree end up writing for some of the coolest brands out there? Good question. I don’t exactly know.
What I can say is that I’ve been playing with words in some capacity since I was in elementary school. I started writing songs in middle school and passed out home-recorded cassette tapes to my peers. I still write songs and make records. I’ve worked with some of my heroes in the process. It’s a passion project of mine. But I also like not being a starving artist because, if we’re being honest, it’s really difficult to produce quality art while starving. So I taught myself how to write for brands and found I had a knack for it. It turns out that copywriting isn’t all that different from songwriting. Be it an email, ad campaign, or even long-form content — it all needs a hook, a flow, and to allow the reader to see themselves in the story. Good copy is an art.
So, how does a kid with an accounting degree end up writing for some of the coolest brands out there? Let’s say I took the scenic route to where I probably should have been from the beginning. Life is weird. I like it that way.
TL;DR: I like words. Life is weird. Here we are.
